About Us

Amy Russell,
Bright Beginnings Director

In the fall of 2007, Bright Beginnings Enrichment Preschool opened it's doors in South Riding, Virginia, with eighteen students. Our approach to learning is an intentional emphasis on the child's social, emotional, and academic readiness for transitioning into kindergarten. We strongly believe that preschool-aged children learn and grow most through play, which is why we strive to create an environment of fun and hands-on learning.

Since opening our doors, two clear distinctions are part of what make Bright Beginnings unique. First, we structure small class sizes where children have daily one-on-one time with the teacher.

We prioritize the individual needs of a child, and one-on-one time is crucial in every child's learning and development. We have seen firsthand, in some preschool settings, children feeling lost in larger classes. Second, a component of our curriculum is faith-based, where once a month we learn a virtue from a story in the Bible, we use music to express our thanks for our blessings, and we discuss putting the needs of one another ahead of our own.

To set up an appointment and a tour of Bright Beginnings, simply call or email and someone will contact you within 24 hours. We look forward to the privilege of serving you.

Staff

Amy Russell

I was born and raised in Winchester, Va. It was there that I got my first job in a daycare teaching 2 year olds. My love for preschoolers has grown into a deep passion to see them grow, learn and have fun being kids. I have been a preschool teacher now for over 25 years. I opened Bright Beginnings in the fall of 2007, not only to fulfill a need in our community, but to also to pursue my dream of owning my own school.

I have been married to Brad for over 27 years and have 2 grown daughters. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, helping others, decorating my house, gardening and watching movies.

Karen O'Connor

I am Karen O'Connor, the Monday/Wednesday/Friday morning assistant. I grew up in Virginia and received a BBA in Marketing from James Madison University. After working for a year or so, I quickly realized that the business world was not for me. I pursued my love for children and went back to JMU to get my teaching certificate. I taught Kindergarten for 2 years in California, but chose to be a stay-at-home mom once my children were born. I have been working at Bright Beginnings for 7 years and regularly tell people that I truly have the best job EVER! Preschoolers are amazing little people and it is such a privilege to nurture them and help them grow. I live in South Riding with my husband, Pat, my 3 high school aged children (Sean, Ryan and Rebecca) and my faithful golden retriever, Chloe. I love spending time with my family and friends, walking my pup, watching my 3 kids perform in Freedom High School's marching band, coffee and yummy food!

Kim Facey

Hello, my name is Kim Facey and I am the Tues/Thurs. morning assistant teacher. I grew up in Maryland, but crossed the border to earn my bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from JMU and later my M.Ed. from UVA. I taught in Maryland, Virginia and even overseas in Cairo, Egypt (my favorite!) before settling down to get married & raise my two sons. I absolutely love watching the preschoolers grow & develop throughout the year. Their curiosity, enthusiasm, and honesty always make me smile! I enjoy spending time with friends & family, volunteering, reading, traveling, and spending time at the beach.

Our Approach

Believing that preschool-aged children learn and develop the most through play, our desire is to see them grow in these three areas:

Socially by playing with their classmates and learning how to interact in a classroom setting.

Academically by providing them with age-appropriate activities that teach them letters, numbers, colors, shapes, writing, fine-motor skills, and gross-motor skills.

Emotionally by learning to be in a safe environment away from mom or dad.

PARENT/TEACHER RELATIONSHIP: Open and honest communication will be the fundamental foundation for our parent/teacher relationship. We desire to build trust in you as we, together, enrich and develop your child. Your concerns are our concerns.
